It’s expensive.. You might want to try finding a magneto and find a magneto expert to make you a template. This should cost a fortune less.
Depends on your requirements to be honest, you are looking at between $500 and $1000 for a custom ecommerce website.
Make sure you shop about though, there are many sharks out there!
It depends greatly on many factors.
$1,000 is probably on the cheap side unless.
1. He’s off shore
2. Using an out of the box solution that he only has to configure ( little or no customization)
3. He has very little experience and you don’t have a tight deadline.
4. The site is already set up and he’s only adding a simple checkout and payment option for a small number of products.
If the above aren’t the case, i wouldn’t trust someone who’s willing to do it for less then $1,000 setting up a quality and secure e-commerce site is a complicated process that takes a lot of time.
However I’m not sure what he or you mean by just for the programming of the website no labor costs Programming a site is labor cost, web development is all labor costs.
$1000 is cheap very much so as a non-sourced-out store, bulk of that money has to go to security and license the pieces like secure CC processors.
As for me I would go $500 but I only do straight sourced-out integration with PayPal as referred payment processor, which means you won’t get a lot of say in how it looks and processes the payment in the end of checkout process but there’s no big licensing and security issues. If interested about it go to
If you want to build it yourself, you can do it for about $15-30/month. Microsoft has a customizable template-based service that lets people make their own ecommerce site. That price includes domain registration, hosting, and access to all the tools you need to make your site. You can add paypal accounts and shopping carts so that you can sell goods and services directly through your website, include video demos of your products, and even create up to 100 custom email addresses that match your .com domain name.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

And the easiest way to create a website is reachable here (web host offering 4500 decent templates):
Good Luck!
As other people have responded, that depends on how many web pages he plans on building for you, does the price include hosting, domain name registration, or is it just for a template?
You should get an itemized list of exactly what that price includes and make sure that he also guareentees the work. You’d **** to be stuck with a bill like that and not have the website you envision.
As someone mentioned, you can also build your own website or have someone start it for you then you can continue to add content to it whenever you want.
The company I use does both and they specialize in ecommerce websites (which I think is a huge bonus in your case) and comes with more features than any other web host provider that I’ve researched. I wrote about it on my About Me page on my website here:
There is also a video on that page that gives a great overview on the company and the features that they offer for web hosting and site building. (If you have any questions after you watch it, just give them a call. They can give you some pricing guidelines depending on what you decide to do).
I use their consultant service since I build my own sites but need some help now and then which I’ve been very happy with.
To save $ the best bet would be to pay a fee to get your website up a going then you take over and continue to add the content as you expand upon your ebusiness.
That way alot of the time consuming up-front work of planning out the structure of your site, site design, keyword analysis and all that stuff has already been done for you.
Good Luck and I hope you make a gazillion!

There is a big difference between building an eCommerce website and one that actually sells. I always like to use the analogy that if a tree falls in the forest, no one hears or sees it. You can have a beautiful web design but the bottom line is that it’s a complete waste of money unless you can market it. If you have a good network of friends and family, or a brick and mortar store where you can refer people to your website, then sure use a designer fresh out of college or even a pre-made package:
$40/month:
$15 – $300/month:
If you’ve got a few bucks to spend but don’t mind a lot of sweat equity, then you can hire a web designer to build your site, and then market it using pay-per-click traffic:
This gets expensive in the beginning though, and it’s critical that you monitor your sales how much you spend per click. You’ll find that a certain position is your sweet spot. It could be anywhere from #1 – 10+.
If you really have a lot of time on your hands and some money for directory listings etc, then build a site learn about search engine optmization (SEO):
If you have a real budget then you can spend anywhere from $10k to $500k for a well-marketed, well-designed website:
$10k range: (this agency does design hosting)
$50-100k range: (this agency does both design seo/marketing)
As far as SEO goes, you need to really read up on it or hire a professional. For example you don’t want to have a flash splash page on your website. This is pretty oldskool anyway. Instead have an HTML site with easy navigation lots of text links and text content.
If you’ve got deep pockets then you can even opt for buying a web business outright:
Lastly, there are lots of options to keep in mind re: inventory. You can either buy it wholesale, drop-ship (lower margins), or even join an affiliate program and promote someone else’s website:
