<description>This error is often caused by the addition of spaces or carriage returns within the encrypted string of a Website Payment Standard Button.

If using the PayPal Button Factory to create the encrypted buttons, copy the HTML code from the factory and paste it into a Notepad document. Copy the code from Notepad and paste to your web page. Turn the auto-format feature off on the Web Development Tool, i.e.; Frontpage, Dreamweaver, etc, if possible or remove the formatting for this segment of code.

If encrypting buttons through the Encrypted Website Payments (EWP) feature, either the auto-formatting issue above may be affecting the buttons, the public certificate used in creating the encryption needs to be uploaded, or the certificate ID specified does not match the one in the PayPal account.

For more information on Encrypted Website Payments, go to

The alternative option is to create a button through the PayPal Button Factory and select as the buttons are hosted by default as well as code protected.</description>
