shisha76 asked:

I am looking to implement a shopping cart on one of my websites. I am not looking for the most expensive. Here is what I am looking for:

1) Easy Integration
2) PayPal Compatible
3) Not something outrageous in price
PayPal does but doesn’t seem to give me an option on configuring handling charges or configuring shipping charges based on weight and zip code.

Oscommerce Modules: How to Improve your Site Quickly and Effectively

June 22nd, 2008 — 12:47 pm

Have you ever wondered how to optimize your osCommerce web shop? If yes, modules will greatly suit your needs. Many useful modules for osCommerce has been developed to help you in this regard including shipping and payment modules and numerous general function modules designed to enhance the functionality of your store.

Submitting osCommerce product information to the shopping comparison search engines such as Froogle, Google Base, Yahoo Shopping, Shopping.com, ShopZilla, BizRate, Edgeio.com, mySymon.com can be a daunting task for many merchants and managing the data feeds across many comparison sites can get very time consuming. There is a module, which simplifies the standard osCommerce multiple-page checkout procedure by combining all steps of the checkout process in one and the same page. It provides full support for login, registration, shipping and payment methods.

There are modules which can largely increase the website page rank. One of them can make it simple to import products in your osCommerce store without using the web interface. It allows you to create a CVS/XLS file that can be easily uploaded trough the web administration part of the catalog.

Updating product and category data in standard osCommerce based websites is extremely time consuming. You must open each product “one by one” just to update prices, inventory status, edit product names, change meta tags or even to simply update product photographs. Imagine how much time it would take for you to do a simple task such as changing product prices across an entire category within your osCommerce web shop. Now imagine a more complex task of updating not only prices for your products, but also product names, descriptions, urls & stock status. You’ll spend for this too much of your time! That’s why developers created modules to simplify and to make faster your tasks with your osCommerce online store.

Payment Modules give the store owner a way to interface with several established companies for credit card processing, as well as a few methods that simply store information on the local server for off-line processing. There are also modules available for handling cash, money order, and check payments, which do not involve an external merchant.

In addition to the default modules that come with osCommerce, there are many additions available for other merchant vendors. Here you will find a list of the most popular osCommerce modules and a short description of what they do http://www.magneticone.com/store/oscommerce.modules

Easy and intuitive osCommerce modules is time saving solution for you. osCommerce modules automate tasks for you without need for additional programming or formatting.

June 20th, 2008 — 06:13 pm
shopping cart systems
For a successful start in eCommerce world, it is very much essential that you are equipped with the best shopping cart. But, the availability of too many shopping cart packages from various companies, each claiming their product’s superiority over other could pose in a problem. Overwhelming amount of information for review, also sometimes serves as a bottleneck.

Some of the criteria you should keep in mind while choosing a shopping cart solution are such as:

It is important to know what features you want:

Keeping in mind the kind of features you want in your Shopping cart is another important aspect. So make a list of the same, such if you feature for stock management, collection management, user management, product support etc.

Cost of Shopping Cart Software:

There are numerous websites that would offer you shopping carts, each of them trumpeting that their shopping cart software is the most cost effective. Don’t get swayed away. Quality factors are equally important as the cost factors might have for you. Narrow down the list of software providers by checking if they can offer advanced features as well is cost effective.

The Payment methods you provide:

There are various free ecommerce solutions available, which helps in integration of your shopping cart functions with a payment gateway, such as Pay pal, Authorize.net, 2Checkout etc. These are highly secured mode of services and you can avail fraud protection services from them as well.

Is your Shopping cart Search Engine Optimized?

To rank your Shopping cart services high in any search engine list, its a pre-requisite now that your shopping cart should also be highly optimized.

Can your shopping cart be supported by some affiliate modules?

An affiliate module is a very cost effective way to advertise your products. It can handle the signup process, provide you with the statistics streamline communication paths and help you to keep track of payments to be made to all your affiliates.

Security:

Conceptually no script is completely secure, but a good script can at least deter numbers of hackers who would try to hack into yours.

Customization:

Check if the specific shopping cart can be customized to match your site or not and if the integration of different functions of the shopping cart to your site is possible.

Expandability:

Is it possible to add additional features that are not in standard package? For instance, If you give membership access to your customers, could you

integrate that with the existing software? This becomes very useful factor, to bring in changes or up-gradation whenever required.

Customer support:

Check the kind of customer services they provide. Start this by sending e-mail with a few pre-sale queries. Scrutinize the quality of their reply by checking if they have responded you satisfactorily.

Read users reviews:

One of the final requirements is to check out on user-submitted reviews for the shopping carts that has most attracted you. One can be deceiving, so go for dozens of review for that specific shopping cart solution. This will give a fair idea about what’s good and which is not.

I don’t have a very large knowledge of html. I do know a small amount of it though, along with css, and some javascript. Anyway… I started a website and on it, I need to have a page where I can sell stuff. Not like on Ebay where any user can sell, but in a way where users could find what they need, and order it with Pay-Pal or credit card. Can anyone help me?

What is the best overall ecommerce solution for a small online store?

Gunner92 asked:

My wife has been using resources from my work (I own my own biz) to assist her with her site. We had some turnover and now my wife needs the ability to have more control over her site content, what she’s selling, etc. She’s not versed in graphic design, html, etc. And one of my main concerns other than a slick web builder tool (necessity) is payment processing. What option best suits this? Thanks in advance for your answers.
