How can I start an ecommerce website?
tydy513@att.net asked:
I don’t have a very large knowledge of html. I do know a small amount of it though, along with css, and some javascript. Anyway… I started a website and on it, I need to have a page where I can sell stuff. Not like on Ebay where any user can sell, but in a way where users could find what they need, and order it with Pay-Pal or credit card. Can anyone help me?

Do you sell things on a retail/mail order basis? are you familiar with the trading rules? In the uk we have distance selling regulations for selling things online. You should make yourself aware of any such regulations before even trying to sell things online.
Once your ok with that why not try out / or even none of them are that easy to set up for a complete novice but they are very well put together and allow you to set up a fully working shop online.
You can opt for a middleman option where you add items to a website and then that website sells them for you, of course they take a cut and maybe even charge a fee like ebay.
Lastly pay someone to build you a site. this way you have some guarantee of the quality of the site. I work for and we have built Commerce sites before, they take as much effort to build as they do to maintain so be aware if your looking to sell lots of things.
If your only looking to sell a couple of things try pay pal’s ‘buy it now’ buttons. They are dead simple but not very flexible.
good luck
try Easy Site Build, XSitePro or Sitebuilder Designs, they have everything you need in building your own website: domain name registration or domain transfer, web hosting, web builder, site maintenance and email accounts. Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction. Some of the features included enable you to add your own themes, videos, images or mp3 music making your site unique to you. Pricing is comparable and affordable too.
Easy Site Build ecommerce websites are integrated with Paypal, 2Checkout and Verisign, while Site Builder Designs and XSitePro are both integrated with Paypal.
I hope that I was of some help and answered your question.
I would strongly recommend building a website through Webstarts. You need to know little to no HTML. And there are video tutorials that show you how to make an ecommerce store in your website. Webstarts also has a true drag and drop feature that makes everything easier and more cusomizable. I have been a web developer for many years and have never turned back since stumbling upon Webstarts.
