I’m originally from chicago and usually there are delivery men standing outside of the grocery stores willing to give you a ride home.No one will jack you for your food. The stores that I know of that have delivery men are Jewels,Aldi’s,OneStop,Dominiks, well almost all of them have them.Just ask some one who works in the store about it they can let you know if they have delivery men.But if you don’t want to pay for a delivery just purchase one of those folding carts just know you can’t put alot of food in them or the wheels will break on you and it’s also heavy to pull especially if you’re getting on the bus.
My sister in law doesn’t drive so she uses Peapod. I know a lot of people here in Chicago use it. It might cost a little more than going to the grocery store, but I think it would be way better than lugging all your groceries around in one of those old lady cart on wheel things.
Get a good folding cart — I had one that went with me from Chicago to Orgeon to Boston. It rusted after 15 years because I stopped using it when I finally learned how to drive in Indiana. The wheels never fell off. It was easy to use in elevators, could hump up stairs, could bump over snowdrifts. Walking keeps you in shape and the cart can help with a lot more than grocery shopping. I have bought one again now that I live in Istanbul; it saves a lot of muscle strain and money.
By the way, you pull the cart, not push it.
