Ok - let's assume you DO want to use osCommerce...

1: Build your design in Dreamweaver.
2: Install osCommerce on localhost
3. Install STS (Simple Template System) on localhost
4. Use the design you made in #1 in conjunction with STS - learning curve is steepish but can be made flatter, easily.
5. When happy, upload the lot to your hosting

Now, it's kind of hard to get osCommerce up and running on localhost, so if you email me via my blog at I have a 18 megabyte download that will get you set up in no time. I've literally just this minute finished writing the User Manual!

Go easy, don't try to build a database driven site if you never have before and expect it to work properly on your first try.

I would suggest using Paypal's e-commerce capabilities first and building out your page with shoppings links to Paypal. Paypal comes with a cart functionality that is easy to use along with step-by-step tutorials. Check
Look for Technical Skill Level: Basic HTML'

Later, when you have everything working, you can start looking at how to enhance the experience by putting together a database driven e-commerce site. I could suggest a few books if you are interested.
