At what age did you take your baby out of his carseat to go into a store?

shopping cart systems
Wyatts mama asked:

My son is 4 1/2 months and I still carry him into the store in his carseat and put the carseat in the cart. But he is getting so heavy that I can’t do it anymore! I have to park beside a cart, get out of the car, put him in it then proceed into the store. At what age was you able to just carry him into the store and set him in the front of the cart? I can pack him on my hip already (excellent head control but obviosly can’t sit up yet).. I need a solution. I do all my shopping alone and don’t really have a choice on that matter and I can’t carry him on my hip and push a cart… What was your shopping system.
I have a carrier but it’s so uncomfortable and difficult to get on and off and get him into it without assistance and a mirror lol.. Perhaps it’s just cheap lol. Anyone suggest a nice, comfortable and easy to get on and off carrier?

Never used it becuase it never worked and I don’t do crying babies. I carried both of them in a front pack or sling until they could ride well (about 7-8 months) in a cart.

When she could sit up with little help in the shopping cart.

Have you tried using a sling? With him facing outwards.

It was around 8 months because that was when we got his convertible car seat.

For now, if he cannot sit up well, invest in a sling/carrier and do it that way.

You cannot put them into the cart until they are at least 6 months and sitting up with support!
    Use a sling

It was depending on my day and mood, or if daddy was with us.. by 6 months we had her out of the carseat all the time ( unless she had fallen asleep in the car) If it was a quick in and out deal, carseat. If it was walking around browsing or lil shopping here and there, Baby Bjorn or carry her. Big shopping and she was awake, shopping cart. By 5 months she was able to sit up and not supported. She loves being in the cart the most, she loves watching people walk by and trying to grab everything.

I would use a sling/carrier til he can sit up by himself, they are a lifesaver at times. I hated lugging that car seat in and out all the time.

at about that age i did. my daughter can’t sit up herself either. i stuff her blanket on one side my purse on the other so she doesn’t tip over. i know how u feel, i have callous on my hands from carrying mine!

I started carrying him in the sling since about 3 months–I would have done it since birth but he never liked to be lying down so I had to wait until he was old enough to sit up safely in the sling.

I have an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. It’s a ring sling. You just have to find the right position and perfect your positioning technique lol. You get used to it after a few times of getting it right. My son honestly will not cooperate unless I put him in the Kangaroo position. It helps to watch tutorial videos on positioning your baby. there are good ones on Youtube.

my son was only 5 months old, and he couldnt sit up by himself either-i had one of those shopping cart covers and if you strap him into the cart and put a blanket in there to hold him up better it usually works. well actually i had a butterball for a baby so if your baby is thinner i’m not sure. and i totally know what your saying about the baby carrier!!
