Question Regarding Shopping Carts for Websites?

Hi I have recently started dabbling in web design and have been requested to do a shopping cart feature

How much should I charge and could someone help me by guiding me in the right direction of how to set it up..costs, systems and programs needed..?

I have also heard you can be a reseller for credit card systems?

Go over to sourceforge.net and do a search for shopping carts there. You will find a number of implementations in a variety of languages. At minimum reading through the comments will tell you of all the gotcha’s they encountered writing the tools.

For shopping cart applications I would recommend contacting your web host so you don’t begin learning something that isn’t supported by them. OScommerce is a good free shopping cart.

For reselling creditcard services you would need to look into merchant services. Your web host would be a good person to contact as well as they might have an agreement which could help you out as you refer people.

As far as pricing goes, you could call competitors and play dumb to get their quotes. Best way to find out the prices you could charge is to call local competitors (the clients do.)
