Is there an eCommerce CMS that will allow users to buy AND sell digital content?

Isaac asked:

I’m starting an online business with a friend which must have the ability to let users to buy and sell digital content in various formats such as word documents, PDFs, text files, and the like. Is there an eCommerce Content Management System that would be capable of something like that?

Thanks in advance for your input! It’s much appreciated!

The only thing I know that can do that is Paypal, but they cost money. But the nice thing about Paypal is it will automatically send the download link to the buyer- so your work is done as soon as you set up the web page (and download page).

It depends on your budget and scale of the business. I would go for Magento or Oscommerce for this. I know that after version 3.0, even WordPress can be used with plugins to have a shopping site, though not as comprehensive as what the others can provide.

Nowadays pretty much all e-commerce solutions have digital product (download after payment) functionality whether out-of-the-box or through plug-ins. Take a look at Zen Cart (http://www.zen-cart.com) and VirtueMart / Joomla (http://www.virtuemart.net /), these are the most popular open source solutions.
    Good luck.
